Description

Verdi (CD) – Anna Netrebko

Composer: Giuseppe Verdi
Artists: Anna Netrebko, Rolando Villazón, Orchestra Teatro Regio Torino
Conductor: Gianandrea Noseda
Number of Discs: 1
Label: Deutsche Grammophon
Release Date: August 20, 2013

In her first studio album in five years, Anna Netrebko celebrates the mighty power and compelling human drama of Verdi’s music. The superstar Russian soprano has surged to the top of the opera world since the release of her first recording for Deutsche Grammophon, propelled by the unforgettable force of her interpretations of landmark works of the operatic repertoire.

Netrebko has chosen to explore the psychological depths of five of Verdi’s most complex characters: Lady Macbeth, Giovanna d’Arco, Elena from I Vespri Siciliani, Elisabetta from Don Carlo, and Leonora from Il Trovatore (joined by tenor Rolando Villazón).

Netrebko’s expressive conviction in each role reflects her mature understanding of Verdi’s art. The album’s authentic spirit is reinforced throughout by the presence of the Chorus and Orchestra of the Teatro Regio Torino and their Music Director, Gianandrea Noseda. The Italian conductor first met Netrebko during his time at the Mariinsky Theatre and conducted her Deutsche Grammophon debut album.

Excellent album!

In this album every aria is perfect and a joy to listen to. Anna's Netrebko work is admirable and the orchestra sounds great epecially in Giovanna d'Arco overture. I can't even say which aria is my favourite. Netrebko's singing is very powerful and strong but at the same time light and clear. Of course I would like a bit more tenderness and piano in some arias like Tibaldi or Callas do,but this interpretation is great, too! I would highly recommend to listen to this great tribute to Verdi.
