The Metropolitan Opera is pleased to offer a professional interpreter for you in another language instead of English. There is no additional charge for this service. Simply tell our telephone representative your language preference. Assistance is available in more than 140 different languages, including: Italian, German, French, Russian, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin and Cantonese.

Membership, Gift Cards, and Forms of Payment

Membership and Member Discount
You can purchase a Membership, and as a Member, you will immediately be eligible to receive your 10% Member discount on most items.

Can the MET Opera Gift Card be purchased and redeemed online?
To purchase a gift card, simply click here or on the link provided in the Gift Card product description and you will be forwarded to the Met Opera Family of Web Sites where you can purchase a Gift Card or E-Gift Card for any amount from $5 up to $2,000.

To redeem a gift card, use the "Pay with the Met Gift Card" option on the checkout screen. You can check your gift card's balance, use multiple gift cards to pay for your purchase, or split the transaction between a gift card and a credit card. Your gift card balance will be depleted automatically once your order is submitted. If an item that a gift card was used to purchase is returned, a credit will be issued in the form of a new gift card.

What forms of payment are accepted for online purchases?
We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover cards. We do not accept checks, cash or money orders.

Sales Tax

Will I be charged sales tax?
The Met Opera Shop collects applicable sales tax for orders shipped to New York and New Jersey, including all delivery charges and gift wrap charges if applicable.

Please note: sales tax displays during the checkout process. Your sales tax will be included in your confirmation e-mail, and you will be charged the applicable sales tax when your order ships. Please feel free to contact the Customer Care department if you would like to know your applicable sales tax before placing your order.

To determine shipping rates, simply begin the checkout process. Enter the address information and proceed to the Checkout - Shipping Information page. Here you can review the shipping charges added. Shipping rates are determined based on the weight of the order and its destination. These shipping rates are calculated directly by the international carrier.

Most products can be shipped to addresses in the countries and territories listed above. For a list of items that cannot be shipped, see below. For international addresses please use the Street, Street 2, City, Zip and Country fields.Most in-stock items will arrive 11-24 business days after receipt of your order provided that there are no unforeseen delays in shipping or Customs. Please note that shipping windows are estimates and delivery dates cannot be guaranteed.

Orders are shipped via a traceable international carrier. You will receive a tracking number when your order ships.

Recipient is responsible for assuring that the product can be lawfully imported to the destination country. When ordering from Met Opera Shop, the recipient is the importer of record and must comply with all laws and regulations of the destination country. Orders that are shipped to countries outside of the United States may be subject to import taxes, customs duties and fees levied by the destination country. Additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by the recipient; we have no control over these charges and cannot predict what they may be.

Customs policies vary widely from country to country; you should contact your local customs office for further information. When customs clearance procedures are required, it can cause delays beyond our original delivery estimates.

Unfortunately, we cannot offer free shipping or free returns on international orders.

Do you deliver to PO Boxes, APOs, or FPOs?
At this time we do not deliver to P.O. Boxes, Army Post Office (APO) or Fleet Post Office (FPO) addresses.
Please make every effort to obtain a street address. Your package that is addressed to a P.O. Box may be delayed, will not be covered by any FedEx Service Guarantee, and will require an address correction charge.

What are the Shipping and Handling charges?
Shipping and handling rates will be calculated separately for each address. Some items have additional shipping charges as noted on the product page.

Do you offer overnight delivery?
For an additional charge found above in the Shipping and Handling Charges, orders placed by 12PM ET will be delivered in the contiguous U.S. in 1 business day for most in-stock merchandise.

We do not offer Saturday delivery.

When will my order arrive?
Allow 2-3 business days for all orders to leave the warehouse, except when overnight or 2 day air is selected. You will receive an e-mail once your item(s) has shipped.

Returns & Cancellations

What is your return policy?
If for any reason you are not satisfied with your purchase, you may return your unused, unopened and undamaged merchandise within 30 days for a prompt refund to the original form of payment or an even exchange. Gift recipients are eligible for an exchange only. Unfortunately, we cannot offer free shipping or free returns on international orders.

To return an item you have two options:

1) Call customer care at 212-501-3482 and they will issue you a FedEx return label by email or mail, please have your order number available.

A charge of $7 will be incurred for use of the return label. 

2) You can also use your own label for no additional fee and send your return to:

Please make sure you include a copy of your packing slip or include your order number for an expedient credit. We recommend you insure your package if you are not using our return label.

The Met Opera Shop reserves the right to deny refund if the merchandise does not meet return policy requirements. 

Shipping and handling charges for returned merchandise are non-refundable unless we have made a shipping error.

Can I return an item to the Met Opera Shop at Lincoln Center?
Returns cannot be accepted in the store. If you purchased an item online, you must return it in the same packaging, using the return label provided.

Can I cancel an order?

If you wish to change or cancel your order, please contact our Customer Service department at 212.501.3482 and provide the order number found in your order confirmation email and we will be happy to assist you.

Please Note: Online orders can only be canceled within 30 minutes of placing the order.


The Met Opera Shop will refund the original form of payment only if it meets the guidelines of the return policy.

Your refund will be processed within approximately 14 days of receiving your merchandise. Your banking institution may require additional days to process and post this transaction to your account.

Is it safe for me to pay by credit card over the Internet?
