We ship orders throughout the United States and to over 20 countries using various shipping services. For each package shipped, you will receive a confirmation email containing a tracking number. Orders with multiple items may arrive in several packages.

Allow 2-3 business days for all orders to leave the warehouse, except when express or premium delivery service is selected.  Please Note:  The Met Opera is not responsible for delivery delays once an order is picked up by any of our delivery partners.
 

Our website does not currently allow shipment to PO BOXES. However, you can place an order shipping to a PO BOX with our customer care team. See contact information and hours of operation above.

Translation Services

The Metropolitan Opera is pleased to offer a professional interpreter for you in another language instead of English. There is no additional charge for this service. Simply tell our telephone representative your language preference. Assistance is available in more than 140 different languages, including: Italian, German, French, Russian, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin and Cantonese.

Our top priority is the safety of Met audiences, artists, orchestra, chorus,
and staff. In consultation with medical and public-health experts, the Met
will be implementing a mandatory vaccination policy for guests, who will
be asked to show proof of vaccination upon arrival at the Met. Guests will
be required to maintain appropriate face coverings in accordance with
current CDC guidelines when inside the building.

Vaccine Requirements


    •    Everyone entering the Metropolitan Opera House must be fully vaccinated. You are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after you have received a second dose in a two-dose vaccine series or two weeks after you have received a single-dose vaccine.
    •    The Met will need to see proof of vaccination against Covid-19 with a vaccine approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or by the World Health Organization (WHO):

    •    Prior to entering the Met, you will be asked to provide proof of vaccination through the CLEAR app (if available to you), the Excelsior Pass (for New York State residents), the NYC COVID Safe app (for New York City residents), or an original physical vaccination card or photograph of it. If using Excelsior Pass, NYC COVID Safe app, or a vaccination card, you must present photo ID along with your vaccine proof. Trained individuals will review your proof of vaccination as you arrive at the Met. Learn more about vaccination verification options accepted by the Met here.
    •    The risk of contracting COVID-19 and other contagious diseases exists in any public space. To purchase a ticket and enter into the Met, all visitors are required to read and accept the COVID-19 Liability Waiver. A copy of the full waiver can be found here.
    •    Children under the age of 12, for whom there is no currently available vaccine, are not permitted to enter the Met regardless of the vaccination status of their guardian. As soon as children under the age of 12 become eligible to receive a vaccine, fully vaccinated children will be welcomed back to the Met.

 

Buy Online and Pick-Up in Store

 

You can order online and pick up in-person at our shop at Lincoln Center.

Add your items to the shopping cart, log in, and check out. When completing your order, choose "BUY AND PICK UP IN STORE" located next to the shipping address.

You will receive a confirmation email once your order is placed and a separate email notification once your order is ready to be picked up.
Most orders will be processed on the same day.

Once processed, you will have three business days to pick up your order.

Please Note: Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination must be presented in order to enter the building.
 
Your order will be held for three days from the date of order confirmation. If the order is not picked up, the transaction will be refunded to your original form of payment.

 

 

How can I check on an order?
Clicking on My Account will take you to the log in page. Enter your username and password to log in.  Once logged in, you can review or manage the following items:

What if I have problems placing my order?

If you are having problems logging into your account, resetting your password, or receiving your member discount, please call customer service at 212.501.3482 during business hours. 

Please note: you must be logged in to receive your member’s discount.  If you purchase a new membership, it may take up to 14 days for the discount to be active on the website. 

Can I cancel an order?

If you wish to change or cancel your order, please contact our Customer Service department at 212.501.3482 during regular business hours.  Please have the order number found in your order confirmation email ready.

Please Note: Online orders can only be canceled within 30 minutes of placing the order.

PAYMENTS AND GIFT CARDS

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover cards and Pay Pal. We do not accept checks, cash or money orders.


What forms of payment are accepted for online purchases?

Sales Tax
Will I be charged sales tax?

The Met Opera Shop collects applicable sales tax for orders shipped to New York and New Jersey. 

If your organization is tax exempt, please call the shop at 212.799.3100 x2399 between 10AM and 3PM ET, Monday-Friday. We will give instructions on how to provide the appropriate tax exemption forms to complete your purchase.

Can the Met Opera Gift Card be purchased and redeemed online?
Purchasing a Gift Card

To purchase a gift card, simply click here .  E-Gift Cards for any amount from $5 up to $2,000 are available via the link provided in the Gift Card product description.

Gift cards expire five years from the date of purchase. Gift cards are non-refundable and may not be exchanged for cash, applied against previous purchases, or to purchase additional gift cards. In the event an unexpired gift card is lost, stolen, or destroyed and the Met is presented with adequate proof of its original purchase, the Met will replace the card upon request with the balance remaining at the time proof of purchase is presented. All matters arising from the purchase, use or possession of a gift card shall be governed by New York law and any dispute in connection with such matters must be resolved exclusively in a state or federal court located only in the County of New York.

 

Redeeming a Gift Card

To redeem a gift card, use the "Pay with the Met Gift Card" option on the checkout screen. You can check your gift card's balance, use multiple gift cards to pay for your purchase, or split the transaction between a gift card and a credit card. Your gift card balance will be depleted automatically once your order is submitted. If an item that a gift card was used to purchase is returned, a credit will be issued in the form of a new gift card.

 

Membership and Member Discount

Members receive a 10% discount on most items (excluding gift cards, shipping, tax, or membership purchases).  We encourage members to sign up for Met Opera Shop emails to receive special offers and additional discounts throughout the year.  To manage your email subscription click here.

Depending on the shipping method selected (Standard, Premium or Express), your order will be delivered between Monday-Friday and within the number of days outlined below.

Please note the following restrictions regarding Express delivery:

  • We are not able to offer Saturday delivery.
  • Express orders placed before noon ET on Friday will ship on Friday.
  • Express orders placed on Friday (after noon ET), Saturday or Sunday ship on Monday.

STANDARD SHIPPING

Standard delivery provided by the Met Opera Shop ensures that your package will arrive within 5-10 business days after the initial date of the order. Orders placed after noon ET, on weekends or public holidays will be handled as if placed the following business day.

This service is provided for all the contiguous U.S. only. Orders placed to Hawaii and Alaska will accrue an additional $9.00 charge. Shipping surcharges apply to certain oversized items. Shipping costs may also be influenced by the size and weight of the product and by your location.

Orders placed after noon ET, weekends or public holidays will be handled as if placed the following business day.

Shipping surcharges apply to certain oversized items. Shipping costs may also be influenced by the size and weight of the product and by your location. Extra charges will be incurred for overweight or multiple carton shipments. You will be contacted by a Customer Service Representative if for any reason your order accrues additional charges.

Orders that are shipped to countries outside of the United States will be subject to additional import taxes, customs duties, VAT and fees levied by the destination country.
 
The recipient is the importer of record and must comply with all laws and regulations of the destination country. The recipient pays any additional charges for customs clearance.  The Met Opera Shop will not refund shipments that are abandoned because recipient has refused the shipment or failed to pay all duties, fees, and taxes.
 
Customs policies vary widely from country to country. Please contact your local customs office for further information. Please note that customs clearance can cause delays beyond our original delivery estimates.

 

After placement of your order, most in-stock items will arrive within 11-24 business days provided there are no unforeseen delays in shipping or with Customs.

You will receive a tracking number when your order ships. Please note that shipping windows are estimates, and delivery dates cannot be guaranteed.

When filling in shipping information outside of the U.S., the Country field must be filled in along with the complete address including Street, Street 2, City, Provence Number or Zip Code.

 

Please note that we are currently unable to ship to the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.

Effective January 1, 2021, the UK implemented new rules for goods imported into the UK. VAT (Value Added Tax) taxes have been imposed on all shipments to the UK and unfortunately, we are unable to comply with the new rules.  We will continue to review our options and hope to be able to restore shipping to the UK again soon.

The U.S. Postal Service has temporarily suspended First Class Package International Service (as of September 3, 2021) and Priority Mail International (as of September 17, 2021) delivery to Australia and New Zealand due to carrier issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Returns & Refunds

If for any reason you are not satisfied with your web purchase, you may return your unused, unopened and undamaged merchandise within 30 days for a prompt refund to the original form of payment. Gift recipients are eligible for store credit or a refund to the original form of payment.

  • The Met Opera Shop reserves the right to deny a refund if the merchandise does not meet return policy requirements.
  • A store credit will be issued for orders returned after the 30-day period. The store credit is valid for 60 days and can only be used in-store. A Customer Care Representative will contact you if this applies.
  • Shipping and handling charges for returned merchandise are non-refundable unless we have made a shipping error.
  • At this time we are unable to offer a return label for international returns, free shipping or free returns.

Please request a return label by contacting our Customer Care Department at 212.501.3482 10AM-6PM ET (Monday-Friday). Please give them your order number and reasons for your return. It may take up to 48 hours to issue a return label via email or regular mail.  

  • A charge of $7 will be incurred for use of the return label.
  • We are unable to offer a return label for international returns.

Please make sure to include a copy of your packing slip and order number to expedite the refund.

We strongly recommend you insure your package and use a shipping carrier that provides a tracking number. We are not responsible for packages lost or damaged in transit.

Can I return my order at the Met Opera Shop Lincoln Center store location?

During the Met’s closure, we are unable to accept returns in person at our Lincoln Center store location. Please see above instructions on returns by mail.

How and when will I receive my refund?

The Met Opera Shop will refund the original form of payment provided the item being returned meets the guidelines of our return policy. Your refund will be processed within approximately 14 days of receiving your returned merchandise. Please note, your banking institution may take additional days to process and post this transaction to your account.

If your item was purchased with a Gift Card, please allow additional time for a new Gift Card number to be sent to you in the amount of the return. You will be contacted by a Customer Service Representative regarding this.

Content Advisory

Some performances available in the Met Opera DVD and CD catalogue include offensive racial and cultural depictions and stereotypes. The issues are varied—from offensive past production practices such as blackface, brownface, and yellowface makeup to racist cultural depictions within the texts of the operas themselves. We continue to make these performances available because we believe they constitute an important part of the company’s artistic legacy. The Met is committed to addressing these vital issues in our programming, whether archival or in the future.
