Tosca's Kiss Red Charm Bracelet

Made exclusively for the Met Opera Shop, this delightful handmade spiral bracelet, created by artist, Cindy Battisti celebrates Puccini’s much-loved, Tosca.

Inspired by the fiery character of Floria Tosca, it features beads of ruby and garnet, which evoke both her love for Mario and the violent stabling of Scarpia with a dinner knife, while declaring “Questo e il bacio di Tosca!” (This is Tosca’s kiss!).

Charms on the bracelet include a heart representing her love, a knife emblematic of the act of murder and the heart held in a hand representative of Mario’s aria, O Dolci Mani in which he praises the strength and courage of Floria’s delicate hands.

Hand-crafted of stainless steel memory wire and embellished with select glass and metal elements, each piece is adorned with charms, which symbolize the characters, arias and events taken directly from the libretto. A chart detailing these relationships is included.

History

Tosca premiered in 1900 at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome. It is one of the world’s most frequently performed operas and is known as much for its gripping drama as for its appealing score. The setting is Rome, where Tosca, a beautiful and famous singer, battles to save her lover Mario from the sadistic police chief Scarpia. The role of Tosca has been long considered a proving ground for great operatic actresses.
