For his first Deutsche Grammophon recording, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, “the most exciting talent of his generation” (Independent), has chosen Tchaikovsky’s Pathétique, the supreme masterpiece that has accompanied him along his whole professional path. This “young conductor who has it all” (Financial Times) directs his Rotterdam orchestra and also accompanies Lisa Batiashvili, “one of her generation’s finest violinists,” (Philadelphia Inquirer), on Tchaikovsky’s glorious Romances in arrangements for violin and piano.
Nézet-Séguin has conducted operas at The Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden, the Salzburg Festival, and concerts with many of the world’s leading orchestras.
History
Music Notes
Most Western music is based on a system of notation that evolved around 1600 out of earlier practices. The starting point for any opera is the full score, which contains all individual voices and instruments arranged in a specific order on the page. The written music—representing the sounds a composer creates in his head—then comes to life performed by singers onstage and played by the orchestra.
