Renaissance Cross Necklace
Front and back of this cross pendant are stamped with different but complementary patterns of scrolling leaves and vines typical of Renaissance decoration and mounted with a freshwater pearl. The arms of the cross flare outward slightly in a delicate pattee shape. The original cross, from which this design was created, dates to the 16th century and is now in the collection of the British Museum.
Reminiscent of the cross worn by Sister Helen in Jack Heggie’s Dead Man Walking.

History
Dead Man Walking
The most widely performed new opera of the last two decades, Dead Man Walking is adapted from the groundbreaking memoir by Sister Helen Prejean. It concerns her ministry to condemned murderers on death row, and in bringing this powerful story to the operatic stage, composer Jake Heggie created a score that recalls Sister Helen’s prose and her advocacy style: direct, unaffected, and unflinchingly honest—but not without a deep understanding of the heart and humanity inside each one of us.
