La Clemenza di Tito Archival Print by Artist Mark Podwal
Mark Podwal’s archival-pigment print features Rome’s grand Arch of Titus adorned with the opera’s leading characters and music notes rendered as Roman coins, superimposed atop the score for the work’s overture in Mozart’s hand.
Collaged onto the arch is the libretto’s 1791 cover announcing that the premiere is presented at Prague’s National Theater on the occasion of the crowning of Leopold II as King of Bohemia.

About the Artist:
Mark Podwal's work is represented in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Victoria and Albert Museum, among many others. His series “Mozart and Prague” was exhibited in 2016 at Prague’s Klementinum where Mozart, it is said, played the organ in its Mirror Chapel.
History
La Clemenza di Tito
La Clemenza di Tito (“The Clemency of Titus”) K, 621, is an opera seria In two acts composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Set in Rome in the first century AD, it is loosely based on the life of the Roman Emperor Titus. This opera, which is one of Mozart’s last works, is a parable of love, vengeance and mercy.
The work premiered on September 6, 1791 at the National Theatre in Prague.
