The debut Deutsche Grammophon album of soprano Hera hyesang Park – a “as beguiling musically as she is dramatically” (Financial Times) – is the result of her meditation on the question, “Who am I?” However, I Am Hera amounts to much more than an exercise in autobiography. Her multifaceted talents and interests are reflected in music ranging from Handel, Pergolesi, Gluck and Mozart, to Rossini, Bellini and Puccini, along with two works written by composers from her native South Korea. She is joined by the Wiener Symphoniker and Bertrand de Billy.

Describing herself as a nomad and free spirit, Park is determined to follow her own path as she travels the world, challenging cultural, racial and gender stereotypes along the way. Her fascination with the issue of personal identity is determining the choice of repertoire for her first album. She hopes this musical self-portrait will speak to a wide audience.
