Description
“David” Violin Bookmark & Ornament
Made of solid brass electro-plated with a gold finish, this elegant bookmark was inspired by the Guarneri del Gesù violin known as the “David,” built in Cremona in 1742.
In the 19th century it was owned by famed violin master Ferdinand
David and has since carried his name. Jascha Heifetz purchased the
treasured instrument in 1922 and played it for over 50 years.
Widely regarded as one of the world’s finest violins, the "David" came into
the permanent collection of the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco in 1989 as a bequest from Heifetz.
It was the donor’s wish that the violin's vibrancy be maintained by being played “on special occasions by worthy performers.”
Its use is now overseen by the museum's Music Advisory Task Force.
Ideal for lovers of great music like that heard at the Met. The stylish bookmark also makes a great ornament.
