Description
“Almond Blossoms” Oval Travel Mirror
The floral print on this travel mirror is a detail from Vincent van Gogh’s 1890 Impressionist painting, Almond Blossoms. The painting shows the influence of Japanese woodcuts on Van Gogh, and the motif is reminiscent of prints used in the costumes of the Met’s production of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.
The perfectly sized compact features two mirrors with 2X magnification on one side for close-up and a standard true-to-life reflection on the other.
- Faux leather
- Outer image printed on both sides

History
Puccini’s original version of Madama Butterfly premiered at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala in 1904. The composer was inspired to write an opera about a tragic love between a young Japanese geisha and an American Navy officer after seeing David Belasco’s play by the same name performed in London in June 1900. Puccini’s score includes many Japanese folk melodies, and is one of his most sweeping and sophisticated. It remains one of the world’s most popular operas.
