White Tiger Ornament

Fashioned after the iconic carousel animals mounted on gold poles, this fanciful white tiger ornament, with grey stripes, is a unique addition to the traditional merry-go-round menagerie. One can imagine this exotic creature winding his way around the carousel as if stalking through the forest. Made of resin, it is detailed with an elegant saddle of sky blue, sapphire and emerald green.

The ornament measure 4” H and is attached to a gold string for display purposes.

A charming memento of the mystical creatures seen in the famous ballet fantastique, The Enchanted Forest, often performed by the
American Ballet Theatre.

The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte)
A sublime fairy tale that moves freely between earthy comedy and noble mysticism, The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte) was written for a theater located just outside Vienna with the clear intention of appealing to audiences from all walks of life. The story is told in a Singspiel (“song-play”) format characterized by separate musical numbers connected by dialogue and stage activity. Premiere: Freihaus-Theater auf der Wieden, Vienna, 1791.

Composer
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791)

Setting
The libretto specifies Egypt as the location of the action. That country was traditionally regarded as the legendary birthplace of the Masonic fraternity, whose symbols and rituals populate this opera. Some productions include Egyptian motifs as an exotic nod to this idea.

Met History
The Met’s English-language family version of Mozart’s enchanting masterpiece has become one of the city’s essential holiday traditions.
