The Summer Night Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic is the world’s biggest annual classical open-air concert that takes place in the magical setting of the Schönbrunn Palace Baroque park in Vienna. The concert is broadcast on television and radio in more than 60 countries, reaching an audience of millions.
The focus of the 2024 program, performed live on June 7, 2024, is on popular works from the 19th and 20th centuries that highlight Europe’s rich musical heritage. It is conducted by Andris Nelsons and features as vocal soloist the Norwegian opera singer and recitalist Lise Davidsen, who performs one aria each from Richard Wagner’s Tannhäuser and Giuseppe Verdi’s La forza del destino. The concert also celebrates the bicentennial of prominent Czech composer Bedrich Smetana with three of his compositions.
