On the evening of October 10th, 2013, a program of Mexican song called Serenata was presented as part of the 2nd Festival Artistico de Otono, with two masters of the lyrical tradition, tenor Javier Camarena and versatile pianist Ángel Rodríguez, at the Telefonica Hall of Centro Cultural Roberto Cantoral.
Veracruz native Javier Camarena is today a new phenomenon in the world of opera. His fiery tone, firm and supple vocals and formidable coloratura have earned him major roles with some of the most important figures in the world of opera under conductors such as Claudio Abbado and Zubin Mehta. He made his debut as Tonio in Donizetti’s Daughter of the Regiment at the Palace of Fine Arts. Since 2007 he has been principal soloist of the bel canto repertoire at Opernhaus Zürich.
