Porgy and Bess Red Embroidered Swing Jacket
This swing jacket shares the vibrant red color of the dress worn by Grace Bumbry as Bess in the Gershwins' Porgy and Bess. The original dress is part of the Met Opera Archives.
The jacket features an embroidered design and glamorous high stand-up collar.
Made with on-seam side pockets and 3 ½” wide lapels, it measures 28” long from the shoulder to the bottom of the hem and 26 ¼” long from the neckline to the bottom of the hem. The three-quarter length sleeves are 19” long. 52.8% nylon and 47.2% polyester.
Meant to be worn open, its tailored construction and generous size lend comfort to both formal and less fancy evening attire. Lined in black.

The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess
One of America’s favorite operas returns to the Met for the first time in nearly 30 years. James Robinson’s stylish production transports audiences to Catfish Row on the Charleston waterfront, vibrant with the music, dancing, emotion, and heartbreak of its inhabitants.
“If you’re going to stage Gershwin’s opera, this is how,” raved the Guardian when the new production premiered in London in 2018.
David Robertson conducts a dynamic cast, featuring the sympathetic duo of Eric Owens and Angel Blue in the title roles and an all-star ensemble that includes Golda Schultz, Latonia Moore, Denyce Graves, Frederick Ballentine, Alfred Walker, and Ryan Speedo Green.
