Old McHandel & His Musical Farm (Paperback)
By John Nothaft, illustrated by Bienvenido Castillo
Hallelujah! Robert and Clara Sheepman are expecting their first little lamb and Old McHandel wants to write a composition to celebrate. We join McHandel on his farm as he completes his chores – and his finest musical masterpiece – with a little help from his animal friends, George Bumblebizet, BeethovHen and the rest. The book was inspired by the love of Handel and written by a professional musician as a Christmas gift for his young niece.
Delicate watercolor illustrations will amuse music lovers young and old. Little ones will have fun impressing their elders with their mastery of animal sounds as they learn about important composers, terms and styles. A glossary is included. Designed to be lightweight and compact, it is an especially lovely gift for expectant parents.

History
Music Notes
Most Western music is based on a system of notation that evolved around 1600 out of earlier practices. The starting point for any opera is the full score, which contains all individual voices and instruments arranged in a specific order on the page. The written music—representing the sounds a composer creates in his head—then comes to life performed by singers onstage and played by the orchestra.
