Designed in the USA exclusively for the Met Opera Shop, this mug and canvas tote are the perfect mementos for any fan of Wagner’s Ring cycle, or to commemorate your visit to the Met Opera.
Both the mug and tote feature illustrations of two iconic characters from the Ring. On one side is Brünnhilde, the Valkyrie warrior queen and paramount figure of Germanic legend, outfitted in her signature horned helmet, armor and red cape. On the other is Wotan, ruler of the gods, sporting an eye patch, winged headdress, and spear shaped from the branch of the World Ash Tree. Both are set against a light gray musical score from the Ring.
The porcelain mug has a sizeable handle for a firm grip, as well as the Met Opera logo on the inner rim. It holds 16 fluid ounces and is microwave and dishwasher safe. A sturdy, decorative gift box is included.
The leather-handled canvas tote has a large inside zippered pocket, roomy interior and sturdy straps measuring 13” long, making it the ideal carry-all.

History
Richard Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen
Conceived and written over a period of more than 25 years, Wagner’s Ring cycle is an epic musical journey of four operas: Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, Siegfried, and Götterdämmerung. Its story of gods, dwarves, and men and the quest for an all-powerful ring was inspired by many sources, including 13th-century Icelandic writings and the medieval German Nibelungenlied. The complete cycle was first seen at the inaugural Bayreuth Festival in 1876. The Met’s landmark production, directed by Robert Lepage, premiered over the course of the 2010–11 and 2011–12 seasons. The DVD release of its Live in HD presentation won the 2013 Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording.
