Met Opera Collectible Sputnik Pin by Lobmeyr (2 ½” HIGH)
Exclusive to the Met Opera Shop, this exquisite Swarovski crystal brooch was inspired by the Met’s Sputnik chandeliers given to the Metropolitan Opera House by the Austrian government in 1966.
It is a re-issue of the original given to the Met planning team and guests of honor on the auspicious occasion of its first production.
Each collectible, one-of-a-kind piece is made by hand using genuine Swarovski crystals and Lobmeyr craftmanship. Bar pin on back.
Measures 1 ½” wide x ¾” deep x 2 ½” high.
The chandeliers were conceived of by Tad Lbeski of Harrison & Abramovitz specifically for the lobby and auditorium then developed further and fabricated by Hans Harald Rath of J. & L. Lobmeyr, Vienna, Austria.

Sputniks
The Metropolitan Opera’s starburst chandeliers have been a beloved fixture of the opera house at Lincoln Center since it opened in 1966. Dubbed “sputniks” after the Russian spacecraft, they reflect light brilliantly through clusters of Swarovski crystals.
