Description

“Merry Widow” Hanna Glawari Shoulder Stole
(Met Opera Costume Exclusive)

Wrap yourself in opera history with this one-of-a-kind couture shoulder stole, cut from the Hanna Glawari character’s costume in the Met Opera production of Merry Widow.  This unique shawl features a luxurious fabric with metallic details, gold lining, all finished with the  hemmed edge of the original skirt.  The shawl comes with a purple organza bag (also made from the costume) fastened with a simple self-tie to close.

The Met’s signature handwritten name tag is sewn into the corner of the lining.  Each and every costume used in Met Opera productions has a handwritten label sewn into the lining.  The label indicates the year, the opera, and the performer who wore the costume.

This costume was worn by several stars over the life of the stage production with each star’s label affixed to the lining of one unique shawl. There are four stoles in total – one for each mezzo:

Frederica Von Stade: Premiered Merry Widow, 2000
Delores Ziegler: 2001
Sally Burgess: 2003
Susan Graham: 2003

  • One of a kind
  • Approx. Size: 16” W x 74” L
  • Care: professional dry cleaning only
  • Iron on golden back side only
  • The costume was worn on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera for the 2000-2004 seasons and may show some small signs of wear as a result.
