Marie-Nicole Lemieux has established herself as one of the finest coloratura contraltos currently singing on the classical music stage.

She is admired for possessing an unusually flexible and beautiful voice that does not have the heaviness that is often associated with her particular voice type.

For this reason, Lemieux has become a favorite among lovers of Baroque opera and she is noted for her portrayal of characters in the operas of Handel and Vivaldi, in particular.

Lemieux's Chansons Perpétuelles features breathtaking selections from the last decade of the 19th century, which she defines as "an incredibly rich, varied and pivotal era."

These were the peak years of French mélodie. We hear Fauré’s Mélodies De Venise, considered among his first successes; Koechlin, little known today, but very forward-looking in his orchestration, as well as Chausson and Lekeu.

An enthusiastic aficionado of this genre Lemieux shares,
“This program is a wide-ranging journey through late 1800s Europe, illustrated by songs, which I love and listen to myself."
