Austrian composer, Johann Strauss II (1825-1899), son of Johann Baptist Strauss. Known as “the Waltz King”, he wrote more than 500 waltzes, polkas, quadrilles, operettas, ballet and other dance music.
His most important works include: Die Fledermaus, Der Zigeunerbaron and Tales from the Vienna Woods.
Strauss’s music can be heard in the many magnificent productions staged at the Metropolitan Opera.
