This film by Marita Stocker conveys the diversity of George London, one of the most impressive bass-baritones of the postwar era. An exceptional opera star who sang with the likes of Maria Callas, Renata Tebaldi and Nicolai Gedda, his career was cut short due to a vocal chord problem.

Featuring previously unreleased archive footage of his opera performances, along with traditional spirituals, musicals, and recitals, this film also includes interviews with his widow Nora London and former colleagues and stars of the opera world including Neil Shicoff, Catherine Malfitano and Deborah Polaski. Plus archive footage from performances featuring George London as Figaro, Don Giovanni, Boris Godunov, Wotan in Wagner’s Das Rheingold, and Faust and Jago in Verdi’s Otello.

“Even London's most enthusiastic admirers may be surprised at how much material has been discovered in radio, television and opera house archives, all of it gathered here in a 90-minute collection of indispensable performances.” - New York Times

“Readers interested in the life and art of George London will be amply rewarded in this DVD.” - MusicWeb International
