Exclusive to the Met, this whimsical mug features a pen-and-ink scene of elegantly dressed patrons in their box seats at the Metropolitan Opera house, illustrated by celebrated American writer and artist, Edward Gorey (1925 – 2000), well known for his animated introduction to the PBS series, Mystery.

Gorey often depicted aristocratic characters costumed in 1920s fashions, placed against Victorian and Edwardian settings, as seen here rendered in his iconic whimsical style.
Originally released in black and white over 30 years ago, our white ceramic mug has been reissued with a hint of color, black handle and rim, brandishing the title, The Metropolitan Opera, and Edward Gorey’s signature.
