David Björling and His Sons in America (Hardcover)
By Harald Henrysson
Biography of David Björling, father of Jussi Björling, and his three sons’ musical tour in America in the years 1919-1921. David Björling was a remarkable man who came from simple relationships and had an uncontrollable desire to see the world and improve himself in music, talented as he was with a beautiful voice. He applied as a young man across the vast Atlantic to end up in the school of opera in New York. After a few years there, he was back in his home country, where his marriage and young family changed the plans for a continued American career, but after his wife’s tragic death from tuberculosis, old plans were renewed and he had three well-trained sons to play music with. After the First World War, the plans came to fruition, and with his sons, Björling commenced a long tour across the United States.

History
Music Notes
Most Western music is based on a system of notation that evolved around 1600 out of earlier practices. The starting point for any opera is the full score, which contains all individual voices and instruments arranged in a specific order on the page. The written music—representing the sounds a composer creates in his head—then comes to life performed by singers onstage and played by the orchestra.
