Description

"Aida" Gold Shell Earrings

The ancient Egyptians had great reverence for the natural world and adorned themselves with objects and images from nature, such as mollusk shells worn as protective amulets.

Made of gold finished bronze, these elegant shell-shaped earrings measure ½ inch wide x 1 ½ inches high. They are reflective of the dazzling costume and jewelry designs featured in the Met’s spectacular production of Aida.

History

Set against the epic backdrop of ancient Egypt, Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida (1871) is an intimate love story about one man and two women who get caught between their personal feelings and the fate of their nations. The great Triumphal Scene at the center of Act II ranks among opera’s most celebrated moments.
