Met Opera Shop “Collection”

The Metropolitan Opera is a vibrant home for the most creative and talented artists, including singers, conductors, composers, orchestra musicians, stage directors, designers, visual artists, choreographers, and dancers. Under the leadership of General Manager Peter Gelb and Music Director James Levine, the company has launched a series of bold new initiatives to reach a broader audience and heighten interest in opera around the world.

The Met Opera Shop is also reaching out in new and innovative ways. After an extensive renovation last fall, the store reopened in the lobby of the opera house and has quickly become a destination for opera lovers, tourists, and others who appreciate its wide variety of elegant and one-of-a-kind merchandise. In collaboration with a select group of companies and artisans from around the world, the Met Opera Shop, now online as well as in the house, presents a collection of exclusive products that capture the creativity and spirit of what’s on stage at the Met.

Over the course of the company’s glorious musical history, millions have come to the Met for opera performances and left with a memento of the experience. Now a top purveyor of opera CDs and DVDs, the Met Opera Shop boasts a specially curated and ever-expanding collection of recordings. This assortment ranges from the legendary (such as the 1977 telecast of La Bohème starring Luciano Pavarotti and Renata Scotto) to the recent (such as the critically acclaimed documentary The Audition, filmmaker Susan Froemke’s revealing backstage look at the Met’s National Council Auditions). The store also showcases DVDs of performances from the Met’s award-winning Live in HD series.

The Met Opera Shop is a thematic annex of the house itself, in both the concept and design of the merchandise. Exclusive stationery, décor, jewelry, and apparel all make reference to the architectural details of the opera house, such as the stunning Swarovski crystal chandeliers and the famed gold curtain.  The innovative jewelry designer Hervé Van der Straeten evokes the look of the house with his brushed metallic rings, bracelets, and necklaces. We have also collaborated with the creative teams behind new productions to create products that reflect their innovative approaches.

We encourage you to visit the store when you are at the Met or browse our selections online at any time, at metoperashop.org. The Met Opera Shop collection is constantly evolving to reflect the changing repertory onstage.
