Roméo et Juliette (2 CD)

This complete live recording is taken from the Met’s historic Saturday afternoon radio performances and is newly remastered from the original February 1, 1947, broadcast. This brand new multi-disc set represents its first official release on CD.

The New York Times says, "the 1947 broadcast of Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, with Emil Cooper conducting, shows. Björling and Sayão are incomparable as the ill-fated young lovers. The innate quality of melancholy in Björling’s warm, rich sound is perfect for this character. Whether aflame with desire, smitten with tenderness or seething with anger, this Roméo always sounds young, lost and vulnerable. And though Sayão’s voice was not large, it was full of sweetness and emotion. She is a heartbreaking Juliette."
