Il Barbiere di Siviglia (2 CD)
This complete live recording is taken from the Met's historic Saturday afternoon radio performances and is newly remastered from the original December 16, 1950, broadcast. This brand new multi-disc set represents its first official release on CD.
The New York Times says, "Di Stefano'Ís performance is fascinating. In the young count's first serenade to Rosina, rather than rein in his plush, throbbing voice to suit the style, di Stefano treats the music like an ardent Verdi aria."

Its story of two young lovers, an elderly guardian who wants the girl for himself, and Figaro, the resourceful barber of the title make Gioachino Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia (1816) one of opera’s most beloved comedies. At the end of the first act, the leading characters, confused by what’s going on, sing about their feeling of hearing the sound of an anvil being hammered inside their heads—a turn of phrase taken literally in director Bartlett Sher’s hit Met production.
