Charles Gounod Handwritten Letter

Beautifully framed with an image of the 19th-century French composer, this handwritten note by Charles Gounod reads (translated to English):

I learned from my dear mother [in-law], Mme Zimmerman, that you would care to attend the rehearsal of one of our grand stagings at the Orphéon:  I hasten to furnish the means through this present letter, which I will be very proud and happy to provide you.
Please accept, Madame, the assurance of my very humble respect,
Ch. Gounod

On printed stationery: “Ville de Paris, École Communales, Direction de l’Orphéon, Paris, 185-“

Gounod wrote this letter to mezzo-soprano Pauline Viardot in 1852, while he was conductor of the Orphéon Choral Society, for which he wrote several works that helped establish his name as a composer. Viardot had sung the title role in his first major opera Sapho the year before and expressed interest in hearing a performance of the Orphéon.
