Jewels, first performed by the New York City Ballet in 1967, is a three-part abstract ballet in which each piece sparkles with the brilliance of a precious jewel. Emeralds, set to music by Fauré, is an homage to the French school of ballet; Rubies, set to Stravinsky, celebrates American dance and is filled with Broadway and jazz references; Diamonds, with music from Tchaikovsky, is a dazzling tribute to the Russian ballet tradition.

Included is an excellent documentary film about Balanchine and Jewels, with interviews and excerpts from the ballet.
