Roberto Alagna celebrates the legacy of Luis Mariano, who was the most fêted interpreter of chansons and operetta arias in France in the prosperous postwar years. Alagna is the ideal singer to revive and reveal these treasures of popular song; although certainly at home in opera, Alagna also used to perform in cabaret as a young man.

Almost all of Mariano’s hits were composed by Francis Lopez and are deeply rooted in French culture and well known to a wide audience. The songs on the album are arranged by the composer, musician and arranger Yvan Cassar. “C’est Magnifique” includes duets with some of France’s best loved stars: Arielle Dombasle (the American-born actress and singer), Jean Reno(best known in the US for his lead role in The Professional), and Elie Semolin(France’s #1 humorist).
